Greer County Wreck Claims Mangum Woman’s Life

A Mangum woman died in a vehicle crash on a highway in Greer County early Tuesday morning.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 20-year-old Maci J. Springsteen was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash just before 1:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 283 6.5 miles north and 4.5 miles west of Willow when while driving a 2018 Nissan Maxima south on the highway, she went off the right side of the road and over-corrected. The vehicle went into a roll and Springsteen was ejected, according to the OHP collision report.

OHP says the driver was not wearing her seat belt when the crash occurred.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

In a separate incident on Tuesday morning, a Sayre boy was hospitalized after being involved in an ATV accident in Beckham County.

OHP says the 11-year-old was a passenger on the 2011 Polaris that was driven by a 9-year-old on private property west of Sayre. The accident report says the ATV was driving in a pasture and drove up on to a busted hay bale, then rolled onto its side.

The 11-year-old was pinned for approximately 20 minutes before others got there to lift the vehicle off of him.

The driver was not injured in the mishap however the passenger was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City before being transferred to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was admitted in stable condition with internal trunk injuries.
