A Clinton man was charged earlier this month after allegedly hitting a person riding a bicycle on a Clinton city street.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the incident happened on the evening of February 6 when the victim told police that while riding his bicycle he saw headlights approach him from behind. He stated that he would ride into a “pick up lane” of a nearby school, but the vehicle eventually accelerated and would hit the victim’s back tire, causing him to fall to the ground.
The report filed stated that while on the ground, the victim said that a man approached him and would threaten him.
The victim was able to get up and run to a nearby home while yelling for help. The man would then flee the scene.
The following month, police were able to ID the suspect, 35-year-old Chase Stewart, by showing the victim a photo lineup.
Court records show Stewart was formally charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury after former felony conviction on April 13, a warrant for his arrest was completed the next day.
A preliminary hearing in Custer County District Court for Stewart is scheduled for May 27.
