An 18-year-old Clinton man was arrested and charged recently after allegedly stealing two vehicles and a laptop.
According to court records, Caleb James Curtis was charged on November 8 with, among other things, two counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, and one count of knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property.
Police records show that the crimes allegedly occurred during the early morning hours of November 6 when Clinton police received a call about a stolen 2017 Ford Fusion. The victim, a minor, would tell police that the vehicle had an Apple MacBook inside and that they were able to locate the computer with the “find my device” feature. Police were able to located the MacBook at the home of the suspect, Curtis, who police say has a history of criminal behavior that involves stealing vehicles. Police would eventually locate the MacBook in an adjacent shed. When questioned about the missing car – which was not at the home – and the MacBook, Curtis would deny any involvement.
Later that day police would receive a call regarding suspicious vehicles in a neighborhood on the east side of the city. When police arrived they would find the Ford Fusion and another vehicle, a 2007 Dodge Caliber.
The Dodge would be reported stolen, while police were at the scene still processing the vehicles.
Police would obtain a search warrant and search Curtis’ home. There they would find a school I.D. belonging to the first victim. This time when questioned, Curtis would admit to stealing one of the cars, but would claim that he purchased the MacBook from a friend.
Curtis was later placed under arrest.
Curtis is due in court for a preliminary hearing on December 10.
