A Clinton man was arrested recently after allegedly hitting a pedestrian with his SUV and driving away.

Court records show that 23-year-old Jeremy James Whiteshirt was arrested on August 9 after being charged with the crime on August 3.

A probable cause affidavit revealed that Whiteshirt is accused of following another vehicle around the City of Clinton at a high rate of speed on July 20. When the vehicle arrived to a home in the 1800 block of Hunt Street, the brother of the driver was waiting to confront the suspect who had been following the female driver. The reporting parties would tell police that they would recognize the driver being Whiteshirt and a passenger being Whiteshirt’s 15-year-old brother. The victim would tell police that the brother would exit the vehicle, and that’s when the man would approach the SUV to confront them. The document said that’s when the vehicle would hit the victim, causing him to hit the ground. However before the vehicle was able to drive away, the victim was able to throw a rock at the back passenger side window.

Police would later locate a vehicle that matched the description given to them. It was also noted that the vehicle had a busted out back passenger side window.

After being arrested, Whiteshirt received one felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, with his bond set at $20,000.

His first court date is scheduled for September 1.
