A Dill City woman is accused of walking away from the Elk City Police Department while awaiting to be booked into the jail.

The suspect was apprehended a short time later.

The incident took place on June 1 when, according to a probable cause affidavit, 37-year-old Stacy Jean Garrow was arrested in Elk City after police found her to be in possession of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The affidavit said that police were dispatched to the area of Banana Lane and S. Van Buren Ave in reference to a suspicious person who was described as being out of control and yelling at the reporting party. Police would find Garrow where they advised her to leave the area. While this took place, dispatch advised the officers that Garrow had an outstanding warrant for arrest out of Washita County after receiving three felony charges back in 2014.

While officers helped Garrow gather her personal items, they reported that they noticed that Garrow was attempted to conceal a small bag in one of her hands. When asked what the bag was, she allegedly placed the bag in her mouth in an attempt to swallow it, along with it’s contents. Officers would successfully prevent her from swallowing the bag, and proceeded to arrest her.

A field test of the substance in the baggie would test positive to being methamphetamine.

After taking her to the Elk City Jail, police would respond to another call of a pursuit in progress – leaving Garrow in the book-in area of the jail.

When police returned, Garrow was gone.

A short time later Garrow was found in a parking lot, nearly a block away from the police department, arrested, and returned to the jail.

Garrow was charged last week in Beckham County District Court with, among other things, escape from the department of corrections and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Bond was set at $15,000.
