A Shamrock, Texas man passed away after a motorcycle accident Monday afternoon in Wheeler County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at a county road intersection 12 miles north of Shamrock when 61-year-old Robert Miles was riding his 1995 Harley Davidson northbound on CR 19. DPS says the rider failed to yield at the intersection of FM 1906 and struck the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 36-year-old Shana Reeves of Wheeler.

DPS says the collision was so hard, it caused the Santa Fe to roll over onto its roof and come to rest in a nearby ditch.

As a result, Miles was pronounced dead at the scene by the Wheeler County Justice of the Peace. DPS says he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Santa Fe, Reeves, was transported to Parkview Hospital in Wheeler with undisclosed serious injuries. One passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Kiera Hurtaell, was also transported to the same hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Three other passengers, a 15-year-old male, a 10-year-old male, and a 2-year-old male were all uninjured in the crash.

DPS says the crash remains under investigation.
