A Weatherford school and Southwestern Oklahoma State University went into lockdown Monday morning while police searched for a possibly armed suspect.

According to the Weatherford Police Department, officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of West Davis Avenue just after 11 a.m. Before officers arrived, the male suspect had left the scene. A female, who was at the location, showed signs of physical injury. Police say the suspect was believed to have left the home with a firearm, however the female victim was not threatened with the firearm during the alleged assault.

Police say because the East/West Elementary Schools are close to the incident, police decided to place the schools on lockdown until the suspect could be located.

SWOSU was placed on lockdown as well.

According to police, the suspect’s cell phone was pinged south of Hydro. Due to this, Weatherford police decided the man was no longer in the area, so the lockdown at the schools was lifted.
