The Elk City Fire and EMS’ Covid-19 delivery program has expanded.

According to Assistant Chief Medical Officer Kyle Chervenka, the department is now offering to bring the vaccine to home bound individuals in neighboring Roger Mills, Custer and Washita Counties, as well as Beckham County.

In fact, crews have already begun that process this week by administering the vaccine to individuals in Erick, Carter, Hammon, Cordell, Clinton and Thomas residents.

Elk City, City Manager Tom Ivester says this is a program that was the first in the state that started a couple weeks ago.

Chervenka says those who are home bound and unable to get to a vaccination point of distribution (POD) clinic, can make one simple phone call to set up an appointment with his department.

It was announced yesterday (Tuesday) by deputy state health commissioner Keith Reed that the state health department will begin making appointments on Monday for an estimated 500,000 people not yet eligible to register for the vaccine, which will open up the final phase of the state’s vaccine roll-out plan.

He said more than 1.6 million vaccines have been administered in the state, including more than 586,000 who have received the full dosage.
