Soon home bound Elk City residents who qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine will have the shots brought to them.

According to Elk City, City Manager Tom Ivester, personnel with the Elk City Fire Department and Elk City EMS are now qualified to take the vaccine into homes of those who may be unable to get themselves to a point of distribution clinic.

Ivester stresses that the vaccine is not mandatory for any citizen in Elk City.

Assistant Chief Medical Officer Kyle Chervenka says anyone wanting the vaccine but can’t leave their home, to call the city to set up an appointment.

Oklahoma’s full Phase 3 portion of its vaccination roll out plan went into affect on Tuesday.

Oklahoma State Department of Health Deputy Commissioner Keith Reed said people in Phase 3 of the state’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan will be able sign up to get a vaccine dose. This includes the expanded education group and the essential worker group.

The OSDH had previously announced that anyone in Phase 1 and Phase 2 can get a COVID-19 vaccine dose. The expansion that went into affect on Tuesday added the remaining group in Phase 2, which includes Oklahomans in congregate care or work locations, city, county and state leaders or public officials and public health staff supporting the front lines.

Phase 3 includes an estimated 2.5 million Oklahomans, including teachers, students age 18 and older, residents and administrative staff in educational settings outside PreK-12, including but not limited to: Child care facilities, early childhood facilities, colleges, universities, career/vocational technology centers, and other post-secondary institutions, and critical infrastructure personnel – essential business/industry personnel – as specified in the Governor’s 3rd executive order.
