The Elk City School Board is scheduled to meet Monday night in regular session, and it appears that the board will consider the hiring of the district’s next superintendent.

According to the agenda, the board will consider to employ Mike Sparks as the Elk City School District Superintendent for the 2021-2024 school years. Board President Brandon Storm says Sparks currently serves as superintendent at Pioneer Public Schools, a kindergarten through 8th grade school district near Chickasha.

According to the Express-Star Newspaper out of Chickasha, Sparks has served as the superintendent at Pioneer Public Schools since 2016.

Hailing from Laverne, Sparks is a Southwestern Oklahoma State University graduate with over 25 years of experience in education.

Storm says narrowing down the candidates was tough but credits the rest of the school board for their diligent work during the process.

Current Superintendent Rick Garrison announced his retirement in early December of last year.

Sparks will succeed Garrison on July 1.

Monday night’s meeting at the School Board Office is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
