Candidates for municipal office in six Washita County municipalities may file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2021.

Secretary of the Washita County Election Board Leah Jones, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 3.

Jones says offices the public can run for include council seats for Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 3 and Ward 4 in the City of Cordell. The City Clerk position in Cordell will be up for grabs as well.

One Board of Trustees position can be applied for in the Town of Rocky. Two Board of Trustees seats in the Town of Sentinel as well as the Clerk/Treasurer seat.

The Town of Canute has two, four year term positions and one unexpired 2 year term that individuals can declare for.

Both Towns of Dill City and Corn have two positions up for grabs each.

If races are formed after the filing period, the Municipal Election is scheduled to take place on April 6.

In other local election news, local election officials also remind voters who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the upcoming Western Technology Center Board of Education Election should apply now. Although county election boards can accept applications for absentee ballots until 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, voters are urged to apply early.

Absentee ballot application forms are available at county election board offices within the WTC district, and an online version of the form can be filled out and submitted electronically at elections.ok.gov.

The election for the WTC board seat between Dennis Baxter, Ray Challis and Eugene Jefferson will take place on February 9.
