A Texas man who is allegedly responsible for a standoff in an apartment complex in Weatherford has a preliminary hearing conference scheduled for February 5.

According to court records, 22-year-old Erick Jacob White of Flint, Texas, was arrested for charges of three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of obstructing an officer.

The incident took place on the afternoon of December 30, when Weatherford Police responded to a report of a man with a knife in the 900 Block of Delarice. When officers arrived they found a man, later identified as White, and a woman arguing.

White allegedly had a knife in his hand and was screaming and threatening the woman. Police successfully were able to get the woman outside and told White to drop the knife.

White allegedly had a knife in each hand and advanced on the officers screaming for the officers to kill him.

After some time, White eventually came outside of the apartment and down to the bottom of the stairs, that’s when officers fired non-lethal bean bag rounds at the suspect – striking him in the chest.

White would return to the apartment.

Later officers were able to talk White out of his apartment unarmed and to surrender. However once officers attempted to arrest White, he would again become combative and resisted during the process.

White was eventually subdued and after being medically cleared, was taken and booked into the Custer County Jail.
