A Sayre man has been charged with grand larceny after stealing a trailer and selling it in Elk City.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 30-year-old Dylan Donald Spencer is accused of stealing the trailer from an Elk City residence located in the 700 block of S. Oklahoma. Police were contacted about the possibly burglary on November 7 when the owner returned home and noticed it was gone. The victim stated that he was contacted by his daughter who told him that she thought she had seen the trailer attached to a tan or gold colored SUV. The homeowner was able to observe on his home security system a similar vehicle pulling the trailer from earlier in the day.

A short time later the victim contacted police again, this time to tell them that he believed to have located the trailer at a residence that was ironically a couple blocks away from his. When police made contact with that homeowner, he told officers that the trailer was sold to him by the suspect, Spencer, at his shop on N. Van Buren, and that he had the bill of sale in his office at the shop.

Officers accompanied the man to his shop to retrieve the bill of sale which had Spencer’s name on it.

The next day it was reported that Spencer was stopped in Custer County by a sheriff’s deputy. During the traffic stop the deputy determined that the tag on the vehicle was stolen, and arrested Spencer. The vehicle was towed and impounded at a nearby wrecker service. An Elk City officer was able to inspect the vehicle at the wrecker service and determine that the vehicle matched the vehicle from the security footage at the victims home.

Spencer received the grand larceny charge last week along with one charge of obtaining cash or merchandise by false pretenses.
