During the latest meeting of the Elk City Commission, City Manager Tom Ivester updated the commission on how the city responded to last week’s ice storm.

Ivester said the street crews drove over 110 miles putting down a winter mix and blading city roads in an effort to keep the roads drivable.

Ivester went on to say that there were multiple break downs with some city equipment but said that is expected during the first major winter storm of the season. He said there were 10 city employees who had logged 18 hour days for four days during the storm. Ivester said because Gov. Stitt had declared Beckham County as being in a state of emergency, the city could be reimbursed for any funds used towards storm relief by the state.

Ivester also reported that Elk City citizens can dump limbs at the city landfill for free, but only for a limited time.

In other city news, the city commission approved unanimously the hiring of Jennifer Rainey to the position of city treasurer. She will assume the role after being sworn in during the next regular meeting of the city commission on November 18.
