Local author and SWOSU – Sayre History Professor Landry Brewer’s latest book hit bookstores Monday.

Cold War Kansas, a continuing look into the nation’s intercontinental ballistic missile program in the 1960s is Brewer’s second book on the topic. His first book, Cold War Oklahoma focused on the ICBM silos in southwest Oklahoma. Brewer says the program in Kansas, which operated multiple silo sites around Schilling Air Force Base and McConnell Air Force Base, was much bigger when compared to Oklahoma’s.

Brewer says he became interested in the history of the program in the state of Kansas while researching and writing Cold War Oklahoma. He says he found the stories fascinating.

Brewer says Mark Parillo, a history professor at Kansas State University and author of Pearl Harbor: The Attack That Launched the Pacific War wrote the book’s foreword.
