The new city manager for Clinton is getting high praise from a local leader in a neighboring community.

Elk City Interim City Manager Tom Ivester says he contacted and congratulated Robert Johnston after he heard the news of his hiring. Ivester says Johnston is well known throughout the state.

Ivester says he got to know Johnston while he represented Tillman County as a state senator. Johnston, who will soon leave the city manager position in Frederick, was hired last week by the Clinton City Council after a special meeting.

Johnston is replacing Mark Skiles who resigned from the position in May. Clinton Mayor David Berrong says Johnston’s first day on the job could be sometime around late September or early October.
