A Las Vegas man was arrested recently after leading a Beckham County Sheriff’s Deputy on a high speed pursuit on Interstate 40 and at one point on a residential road through Sayre.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 25-year-old Micheal Elies Curto was arrested on the afternoon of July 12 after the sheriff’s deputy clocked his vehicle going 89 miles per hour in the eastbound lane of I-40, nearly hitting a semi truck, and nearly hitting a sign as it exited the interstate. The deputy gave pursuit on State Highway 152 and said he noticed the vehicle nearly miss the turn onto Electra Street in Sayre. This caused the vehicle to exit the roadway and go through the lawn of a local nursing home.

While pursuing the vehicle on Electra, the deputy said speeds reached 80 miles-per-hour, and eventually 100 miles-per-hour once the pursuit reached Route 66.

Eventually the pursuit returned to I-40 eastbound with speeds reaching 115 miles-per-hour before the suspect pulled over and was arrested.

While being arrested, Curto claimed he didn’t notice the deputy behind him due to his loud music.

Curto was booked into the Beckham County Detention Center and received a felony charge of endangering others while eluding or attempting to elude a police officer.

His next court appearance is scheduled for September 28.
