A 70-year-old man died and two people were taken to a hospital after a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in Dewey County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2002 Dodge Durango was traveling southeast on U.S. Highway 270 Tuesday afternoon near Oakwood when for an unknown reason it went left of center and struck a 2011 GMC Sierra pickup truck. The Sierra pickup truck rolled over multiple times, pinning the driver and passenger for about one hour before Seiling Fire and Rescue could get them out.

The driver of the Sierra, identified as Gary Lee Bird of Lawton, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, 68-year-old Valorie Jean Bird, also of Lawton, was taken to Seiling Hospital and then to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition.

The person driving the Durango, 21-year-old Christian Edward Muro of El Reno, was also taken to OU Medical Center in critical condition.
