Wheeler County Sheriff: Carter Wins Primary

The primary runoff election in Texas on Tuesday gave Wheeler County residents a clearer picture of who their next sheriff might be.

On the Republican ticket, Chief Deputy Johnny Carter defeated John Hankins by obtaining 56 percent of the vote.

According to the Texas Secretary of State’s website, Carter will face a general election opponent in Democrat Julian Torres who had no opponent on Tuesday.

Current Wheeler County Sheriff Wes Crites plans to retire.

The general election is on November 3.
