Traveling on Oklahoma’s first diversion diamond interchange located in Elk City is almost a reality.

According to Oklahoma Department of Transportation Division Five Engineer Brent Almquist, although not complete, the project at the junction of Interstate 40 and State Highway Six could be ready for normal traffic by early September.

Almquist says the construction portion of the project, which has taken over 12 months so far to complete, has been drawn out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Almquist also says the project on the I-40 Business Loop near the Elk City Civic Center is nearing completion, saying it could be wrapped up in two weeks.
