Coronavirus: Elk City Has 13 Active Cases

Beckham County’s number of active COVID-19 cases continues to rise.

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s daily report, there are now 13 active cases of the virus in the county – all of which reside in Elk City.

Custer County continues to see a rise as well with 16 active cases, 12 of those active cases are in the City of Clinton.

According to the office of Emergency Management in Roger Mills County, after days of speculation, the county is now reporting its first positive case of COVID-19. According to a press release, Roger Mills Memorial Hospital officials have confirmed the case, saying the individual is a female in the 65 and older age group and is recuperating at home.

Elsewhere there are now five active cases each in Kiowa and Washita Counties, and four in Greer County.

Statewide the report stated there were an additional 510 cases added, along with 330 recoveries and two more deaths. Oklahoma now has 4,506 active cases of COVID-19. The state’s death count now stands at 424.

More than 15,000 Oklahomans with COVID-19 have recovered, according to the health department.

Fortunately there have been no deaths reported out of Beckham, Custer, or Washita Counties.

As of Friday, 499 Oklahomans were reported to be hospitalized due to the virus.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up within weeks. But for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the highly contagious virus can cause severe symptoms and be fatal.
