Coronavirus: Greer County Sees COVID-19 Return

Greer County, once a hot spot of COVID-19 cases has seen the virus return according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

In the department’s daily report, Greer County has two active cases of the virus pop up since yesterday. The county has had 66 cumulative cases of the virus since the pandemic began in the spring, however 57 have since recovered while seven have passed away due to the virus.

Elsewhere, Custer County saw an active case recover however the county is still reporting 15 active cases. Jackson County still has five active cases. Kiowa County has two. Beckham and Washita Counties still have one active case each.

Statewide the number of active cases has once again surpassed the 1,000 mark, currently at 1,006. That is up by 47 cases when compared to Wednesday. It’s highly suspected the sudden rise of active cases comes after gatherings took place over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Fortunately hospital rates and daily death rates remain low for Oklahoma. There are currently 153 patients in Oklahoma hospitals being treated for COVID-19. That number is up by three when compared to Wednesday. There have been two more deaths due to the virus being reported, however none of which occurring in the past 24 hours. The state’s death count is now at 357.

A total of 6,263 people have recovered from the illness an increase of 97 recoveries when compared to Wednesday.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up within weeks. But for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the highly contagious virus can cause severe symptoms and be fatal. The vast majority of people recover.
