As the case count of COVID-19 continues to rise throughout the state, the numbers seem to hold steady in western Oklahoma.

According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health’s daily report 959 Oklahomans currently have COVID-19, that is an increase of 22 cases when compared to Tuesday.

Custer County remained with 16 active cases, Jackson County gained a case. That county now has five active cases. Kiowa County remains with two active cases, while Beckham and Washita counties still have one case each.

Harmon and Roger Mills counties have yet to report a case of COVID-19.

State officials say there have been two more deaths due to the virus, however none of which occurring in the last 24 hours. That brings the state’s death count to 355.

Currently there are 150 Oklahomans hospitalized due to the virus. That is up by two when compared to Tuesday.

The actual number of people who have contracted a virus is likely higher because many people have not been tested, and studies suggest people can be infected and not feel sick.

According to the department, a total of 6,166 people have recovered from the illness.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up within weeks. But for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the highly contagious virus can cause severe symptoms and be fatal. The vast majority of people recover.
