An Elk City man was arrested recently and charged in Beckham County District Court with cruelty to animals.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 22-year-old Kyle Wayne Trissell was arrested earlier this month after allegedly throwing a kitten against a wall.

The court document said that Elk City Police were dispatched to a home in the 900 block of South Oliver, responding to a possible domestic abuse incident in progress. When officers arrived they found a woman sitting on the curb, crying, and holding a lifeless kitten. When asked what happened, the woman claimed that Trissell had killed the cat.

The affidavit stated that police made contact with Trissell, who was inside the home, and told police that the woman had thrown the kitten on him while he was sleeping, and while startled – he threw the kitten against the wall.

However, while interviewing the woman, the stories didn’t collaborate. According to her, the couple had gotten into a dispute and she went outside. While outside, the woman stated that she had received a text from Trissell stating that he was going to kill the cat. She stated that when she re-entered the home, she had found the kitten on the floor bleeding.

Trissell was arrested and booked into the Elk City Police Department. His next court date is scheduled for July 13.
