An Elk City couple has been charged with felony drug complaints.

The man, 43-year-old Chad Dean Holmes is free on a $3-thousand dollar bond while 36-year-old Maria Delaro Armenta-Gonzales is being sought by police on a bench warrant. Both are charged with possession of a controlled, dangerous substance.  Holmes bonded out of the Beckham County Detention Center on Friday, June 24.

According to a probable cause affidavit, in January of 2016, police responded to a tip that individuals were using narcotics at an Elk City motel. When officers arrived and knocked on the motel room door about 10:45 am, a male voice responded, “Can you come back later?” to which police answered, “Not really.”

Holmes let the two officers inside where they also found Armenta-Gonzales. When the two were told that the police knew they used narcotics, Holmes allegedly nodded his head, yes.  He then replied that he “was addicted to meth.”  He told them he wasn’t a dealer, but that he “would help a friend out, here and there with some.”

When asked if the officers could look around their motel room, Holmes reached for a box of Huggies that allegedly contained a lightbulb that had been converted into a smoking device. Residue inside later field tested positive for methamphetamine.  Armenta-Gonzales told Holmes that he belter make sure that he gave police “everything” and added that she and Holmes were addicted and “was always wanting to get help.”  Holmes then allegedly handed officers an envelope containing six used syringes with cotton balls.

Additionally, police found a napkin with a white substance, a needle cap, a clear container with a white, crystal substance and a pen/socket with burnt residue.

Holmes wasn’t arrested until June 24, a week ago, on a bench warrant for possession of a CDS.

The arrest came when police were called to a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of North Main in Elk City. Holmes was there with Armenta-Gonzales and another man that gave police – what turned out to be a fictitious name – but actually turned out to be Holmes brother, 32-year-old Bobby Dwayne Holmes.  The younger Holmes was wanted on a bench warrant on two, 2014 felony, burglary convictions for non-payment of court costs.

Both of the Holmes brothers were transported to the Elk City Jail.
