Pre-Weekend Wrap Up

All ready we've had a crazy week on the "Back Roads"!  I thought I would interject for a moment to wrap up some of the things that have taken place this week before we launch full steam into the weekend ahead.
Last night (11-1-2012), I went out to my favorite haunt, JC Cowboys.  I'm going to level with you.  I've been to a hell of a lot of bars, honky tonks, and clubs in my life and JC Cowboys is still without a doubt my favorite.  First, hats off to Ryan the DJ.  It's nice going somewhere and sitting under the musical navigations of a guy who knows just what he's talking about.  Last night was thirsty Thursday which meant free draft till 11PM and as I sat with my mug of frothy brew, Ryan spun tracks from Ray Wylie Hubbard, Tom Skinner, Ragweed, McClure, Turnpike, Reckless, The Damn Quails, American Aquarium,  and that's just naming a few.  Needless to say, it was the perfect soundtrack to an evening of cold draft beer and the OKC Thunder.

Everyone at JC Cowboys has been amazing.  They give me all the access to the artists that come in that I need, and have been extremely nice to the wife and I.  Last night they took things to the next level and put the Back Roads banner on display!

Now when you're two stepping it out at JC Cowboys you can look up and know that the "Back Roads" are looking over you in a tender, loving way.

Big talk last night while I was there was the upcoming show with No Justice on November 17!  We've been spinning the latest track from No Justice, "Never Gonna Be Enough", and the show will be celebrating the release of their latest album "America's Son".  Do not miss this show!

I received a phone call while in the shower on Wednesday morning from Gabe The GM, and he surprised me with the news that Stephen from Love and Theft was going to be calling in to the show that day.  Usually I book guests at least a week or two in advance so I have time to familiarize myself with the latest news and make sure that if anything new pops up, I'm the first to get the scoop.  Well, Stephen didn't make the call on Wednesday.  Instead, he called in on Thursday while on his way to the red carpet at the CMAs!  I was warned of the impending phone call about 15 minutes before it happened, so my notes weren't the most thorough.  Despite the rattling of my mental stability with the hectic arrival of Stephen's call, the conversation went well.

Cyrus James proved an excellent guest who has many a story to share, most through song.  Cyrus brought in some great tunes, tattoos, and one amazing hat.  They even had the KECO Cowbell help out on their opening tune.  Cyrus is one hell of a story teller, and the album "Molly and the Devil" is a journey through life with a man who has truly attempted to live.
