Weekend Wrap Up

This past week and weekend were extremely busy for the "Back Roads" crew!  Last week we had three special guests on the show to talk about a variety of topics.

Richie Allbright kicked off the week talking about his latest single "Kickin' Down the Doors" and the rough path he has taken in the music game.  Richie is passionately traditional country, and makes no bones about doing music his way.  We also found out that he recently had his appendix removed, and was well on his way to a speedy recovery and a couple of shows.  Brandon and Richie discussed "kicking down the doors" in not only music, but in radio as well.  To cap it all off we also found out that the Texas outlaw has found love and stability in fiance Kim.

Jenny Simms stopped in with her rowdy bunch of boys to talk about the Country Showdown which took place over the weekend.  Jake is in fact wearing clean underwear, and despite our best attempts we were unable to determine if they were boxers or briefs.  We were able to determine that he does prefer the tagless kind.  Jenny and the boys performed an outstanding rendition of one of Brandon's favorite songs, "House of the Rising Sun" and "Goodbye Letter".  They also discussed the finer points of SAMCRO, Walking Dead, and Apple computers before being sent off with well wishes.

Trey Stevens stopped by to discuss life post Shamrock, Texas after a close to 16 hour trip.  We were all exposed to our first song inspired by "50 Shades of Grey", and discussed the need for Andy to read it aloud for Brandon on the show during their ride home.  Trey and Brandon also talked about the MDA benefit that took place last weekend with Kimbro's Angels and the future of Trey Stevens Music.

Saturday, Brandon made the trip to JC Cowboys in Weatherford to experience the Jake Moffat Band live.  Jake and the guys tore through an amazing set filled with originals, covers, and even tracks from their next project.  Brandon got a big shout out from the stage from Jake, and found a die hard Back Roads fan.  The covers performed by Jake Moffat and crew were some of the best songs from the 90's, and the guys made each one their own.  An amazing show from an amazing group of guys that were nice enough to stick around to shake hands and chat afterwards.

Sunday the New Orleans Saints beat the Buccaneers, which made Brandon very happy and a little bit easier to deal with while working on the interviews with Granger Smith and Earl Dibbles Jr.  On TV Sunday night it was "Once Upon A Time" where Mr. Gold showed his softer side much to Brandon's dismay, Rick is losing his mind on "The Walking Dead" while clearing out the prison for some shifty inmates (side note: the previews for next week included footage of the helicopter crashing for fans of the "graphic novels"), and Corky stopped a plot to burn down New York City by southern rebels headed up by the Major's dad in "Copper".

Tune in this week for Moonlight Madness and "The Back Roads to the White House" with LB, Granger Smith, and Earl Dibbles Jr.  This upcoming Friday, Brandon is currently slated to make a road trip to Amarillo to catch Granger and Earl at Midnight Rodeo.  Should be a good week on the "Back Roads"!
