Chad Sullins has an unique effect on people. In fact, the same could and should be said about Last Call Coalition as a whole. I defy any man, woman, or child to not get swept up in the intense passion and the energy that radiates from the stage when Chad, Josh, Jerry, and Jeremy go to "work". After a hectic morning at work, losing all cell phone service, and checking into a hotel that looked like something of a Bates family heirloom, walking into Woody's was something of a relief. After the validity of my photo i.d. was questioned ( The lesson here is don't shave if you have a beard in your photo. ), my wife and I were blind sided by a bellowing hello from none other than the "Lion of Stillwater" himself, Chad Sullins. We all hugged and caught up on life, and moved on to what can only be described as an evening that lives up to the now cliche' term, "epic".
The Last Call Coalition and Chad took to the stage, and due to our seating we were unable to see thanks to a rather rudely placed pillar. To the front of the stage we went, standing along side our good friend "Beans" and our new friends Brandon and Ivy. From opening note, until the third song of the encore, not once did Chad Sullins and Last Call Coalition let off the gas. It was an all out rock n' roll gathering of Oklahoma's finest. The dance floor and surrounding area was too crowded with two-steppers and the awe inspired for the waitresses to safely navigate their way to tables of eager patrons. At one point my wife even ran to the rescue with one of my cigarettes when Chad was in dire need. There was no real or imaginary "barrier" between us in the crowd and LCC. When they work their way through a set, they grab you by the arm musically and lead you on a whirlwind tour of heartache, redemption, madness, and whiskey soaked good times.
At one point, Chad went acoustic. In nature they refer to it as the calm before the storm. At Woody's that night, everything had been leading up to that moment. I will sum up the acoustic portion of the night very simply. I can not wait to hear the new album. Yes. That does mean we were all treated that night to new music from Chad Sullins, and it was beautiful.
No matter what your tastes are, there is something for absolutely everyone with Chad Sullins and the Last Call Coalition. I don't mean there is one track on the album for everyone. The whole album is for everyone. Pick up a copy of the album, Incommunicado.
