A Sallisaw woman was arrested in Clinton recently after entering an occupied home and attempting to take a stereo.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 41-year-old Verena Nicole Clinton was arrested on the evening of September 13, after police were dispatched to a home in reference to a burglary in progress. When police arrived they were able to locate the suspect in the backyard of a neighboring home. When asked where she was coming from, Clinton told the officer “same as you”. She would use the same reply when asked if she was by herself and if she was on any type of illegal substance. The officer noted in the report that the suspect was unable to stand still and was clenching her jaw and grinding her teeth. The officer would proceed to arrest her and go to the victims home.

While talking with the homeowner, the woman told the officer that while sitting in the living room with her five children, she heard her front door open and her dog began to bark. She said she got up to investigate and ultimately found a woman in her master bedroom attempting to take a stereo. When she told the woman to leave the home, the suspect reportedly sat the stereo down and told the homeowner “we good” and left the home.

The homeowner would later positively identify Clinton as to being the person who had entered the home earlier in the evening.

Clinton was booked into the Clinton City Jail on charges of first degree burglary and public intoxication of drugs.

She was later charged with one felony count of first degree burglary in Custer County District Court.

A preliminary hearing for Clinton has been scheduled for November 6.
