Labor Day weekend in Elk City means its rodeo weekend, and this year the rodeo could be one of the most competitive in recent memory.

According to Elk City rodeo board member John Thomas, the 82nd Annual Elk City Rodeo of Champions has the potential to bring in some of the top cowboys and cowgirls due to other canceled rodeos due to the ongoing pandemic.

Thomas says with the potential of having enhanced competition, it’s also exciting to see what he calls some of the nations top stock in the rodeo provided by locally owned Beutler and Sons Rodeo Company.

The Elk City Rodeo of Champions takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 8. Each night after the rodeo will feature special events that include trick riding and motocross performances.

This year’s rodeo parade that rolls through downtown Elk City will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
