The Elk City School Board met Tuesday afternoon and discussed the “Return to Learn” plan that will be introduced to the public in the near future.

Superintendent Rick Garrison says the school district has formed a Safe and Healthy School Committee that consists of school district representatives, building representatives, student representatives, parent and community representative that include Colonel Tom Ivester who’s served on the Governor’s task force addressing Covid-19 in the state, Great Plains Regional Medical Center CEO Corey Lively, and Arielle Howard from the Beckham County Health Department.

Garrison says the detailed plan addresses ultimately how the school is going to address Covid-19 and how to return to on campus education.

Also during the meeting the board approved policies concerning online instruction. It was indicated that students may have the option to continue to receive instruction in a virtual setting if they desired.

In other business, after discussing the senior survey results concerning the possibility of having an indoor graduation for the 2020 graduating class, it was determined to not have a traditional ceremony this year.
