The Clinton City Council met Tuesday night in regular session and approved the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget for the city.

Mayor David Berrong says the city is projecting a decrease in sales tax revenues for the upcoming year which prompted the city council to approve a 7% decrease in the upcoming budget.

Berrong says fortunately the Clinton citizens approved to retain a half cent sales tax last year that goes towards the city’s general fund. He says in the short time that tax has been retained, he can see the benefits of the half cent.

The approved budget goes into effect on July 1.
