A COVID-19 case has emerged in the Town of Sentinel in Washita County, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

That added case brings Washita County’s total to two active cases, with the other being in Foss.

Other numbers in the area went unchanged when compared to Monday. Custer County remains with eight active cases, seven in Weatherford with the other active case in Clinton. Altus is home to the four active cases in Jackson County, while Mangum in Greer County has two active cases. Kiowa County’s two active cases are in Mountain View while Beckham County’s one active case is in Elk City.

However statewide the story is much different. There were another 87 active cases reported, bringing the state’s total active cases to 1,517.

There were four additional deaths reported Tuesday as well, none of which occurring in the past 24 hours. The state’s death count now stands at 363.

There was a sudden increase in hospitalizations in the state as well, with 23 additional Oklahomans occupying hospital beds. However the number remains manageable with 172 currently hospitalized due to the virus.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms that clear up within weeks. But for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, the highly contagious virus can cause severe symptoms and be fatal. The vast majority of people recover.
