During an emergency meeting of the Elk City Commission Thursday afternoon the commission met in executive session to discuss the employment, hiring, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining, or resignation of City Manager Lee Litterell.

After meeting behind closed doors for nearly 45 minutes, Ward 4 Commissioner Rick Shelton made a motion to terminate Litterell.

The termination came on the heels of a lengthy regular commissioners meeting on Monday night that saw multiple people express displeasure with the now former city manager over various topics including the city’s response to a broken 12” sewer line on private property, and the lack of medical marijuana dispensaries in city limits.

An interim city manager was not named during the meeting. Mayor Nick Archer says he anticipates a special meeting will be called as soon as next week to name a person to the position until a successor is found.
