Beckham County Commissioners decided in an emergency meeting Thursday to keep the courthouse and county services operational, but they are restricting public access to all county buildings as a precaution to protect the public and county staff members from unnecessary exposure to COVID-19.

Commissioners approved the proclamation at the meeting, to take effect on Friday at 8 a.m.

In a press release from county officials, the county will still conduct all necessary business, including receiving and sending payments, and sending, receiving and filing necessary instruments and documents. The move will mean that more business will be conducted by mail, email and telephone. Officials say for necessary cash payments, arrangements can be made by calling the appropriate office and arranging for a county staff member to do a curb-side pickup.

The court house and other county buildings will be locked, and any necessary access will need to be arranged by phone with the appropriate office. Security staff will then do a health screen of visitors before allowing them into the building.

Similar action is taking place in Roger Mills County.

According to a press release, a proclamation was passed saying all county owned facilities will be closed to the public until further notice. The press release stated that officials are working on a restricted public access policy and it will be posted as soon as possible.

Roger Mills County officials say if anyone has business with any county office, to contact them by phone for assistance and instructions.
