The iconic water tower that greets I-40 travelers as they stop in or pass through Clinton is about to get a face lift.

During the latest Clinton City Council meeting, council members approved a bid from an Indiana company to paint not only the outside of the tower, but also the inside. City Manager Mark Skiles says the council entertained two bids for the project.

Skiles says there will be some familiar graphics painted on the tower, along with some additions that a certain fan base will appreciate.

When asked about the structural integrity of the tower, Skiles says although rust is currently visible on the outside, the steel was tested and is described to be in excellent shape.

Skiles says the process of repainting the tower will begin in the first week of April.
