History was made during the regular meeting of the Elk City School Board on Monday night. The vacant #3 board seat was officially filled with the swearing in of Melanie Randle, who assumes the position immediately. Superintendent Rick Garrison says it was a step in a positive direction for the district in many ways, because Randle will be the first African-American to serve on the school board.
Garrison says Randle will fill out the rest of the term left on the seat, which will almost be a full year. Randle will need to file next December if she wishes to retain the seat. If she draws a challenger, the general school board election will take place in February 2021.
