Busy Weekend On Area Roads

It was a busy weekend on western Oklahoma and Texas panhandle roads.

In Texas, The Texas Department of Public Safety seized 3,350 pounds of marijuana on Thursday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle on Interstate 40 in Carson County. The report stated that the 2016 Ford U-Haul was traveling east before being pulled over for a traffic violation. The Trooper then discovered multiple boxes containing marijuana in the cargo area. 39-year-old Aneudy Gonzalez of Surfside, Florida was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. The drugs allegedly were being transported from San Jose, California to Bronx, New York.

Also in Texas, a Pampa man lost his life in a one vehicle accident. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety 22-year-old Schuyler Gonzalez was southbound on State Highway 70, north of Pampa, when he veered across the northbound lanes and into the east ditch. The vehicle continued south in the ditch until it struck a culvert causing it to rollover multiple times. The driver was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The report stated that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

In Oklahoma in Kiowa county, a Mountain Park man was struck and killed early Saturday night. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol 76-year-old Steven Parsons was struck on U.S. Highway 183 near Mountain Park. Parson was pronounced dead at the scene. The OHP reported that the cause of the collision and the condition of the driver remain under investigation.
