Two Elk City women have been arrested on criminal felonies including possession of Methamphetamine in two separate incidents.

33-year-old Benita Ann Mora was arrested on July 2 after being pulled over about 10:30 pm for a burned out headlight in her Chevy pickup.

39-year-old Sumer Marie McGaha was arrested four days later after she was pulled over for not having a license plate.

Both women had warrants for their arrest and during questioning, police allegedly found illegal narcotics in their vehicles.

Mora was observed by police to place an item under the center console of her pickup right after she was pulled over. Officers allegedly found a small black and gold pistol with a wooden grip and, on the floor board behind the driver’s seat, two used syringes.

Additionally police found what they believed to be marijuana and a baggie of various pills along with $160 dollars in cash. Mora told police that she’d been set up by a friend, another woman.  She was taken to jail and booked in.

During a search of the officer’s vehicle, he found a small clear baggie where Mora had been sitting earlier. It contained a white crystal substance that tested positive for meth.

Later, after being jailed, she allegedly changed her story and admitted that the two syringes were hers and that shed used meth prior to being pulled over.

She’s being held on a $15-thousand dollar bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 30 on three counts of a controlled, dangerous substance, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just after 11 pm on Wednesday, July 6, Elk City Police observed a black SUV traveling north on Pioneer without a tag. The vehicle failed to pull over immediately after the officer attempted a traffic stop and, instead, turned the corner and pulled into an apartment complex on West Country Club Road.

The driver, McGaha was arrested for having a suspended license and as she stepped out of her vehicle, the police report says, she grabbed at her groin area. She next asked the officer if she could call her boyfriend to come get the keys to the vehicle.

After he came down from the apartment, he hugged and kissed McGaha.  Doing so, the officer wrote in the report that McGaha kept trying to whisper something to him as she pretended to give him a kiss.

The officer asked if she had anything on her that she needed to let him know about and she, reportedly, hung her head and said, “yes,” that she allegedly had a pipe and drugs in her pants.

The officer removed an orange, glass pipe with white residue and two plastic baggies containing a white, crystal substance that later tested positive for meth.

She allegedly told the officer that she didn’t use drugs but she only sells them to make extra money.

Upon arrival to the city jail, the officer told McGaha that her behavior worried him and he wanted to know when the last time she used to which she allegedly responded a couple hours earlier.

No court date has been set for McGaha according to online court records.
