An Elk City man has been sentenced to prison after being arrested a third time for possession of drugs.

28-year-old William Chase Shewmaker was recently sentenced – after pleading guilty – to seven years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections with all of it suspended upon completion of a Bill Johnson Drug Offender treatment program or a comparable program.

Shewmaker had previously pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance in 2014 and again in 2015. The latest charge came last month when Shewmaker was arrested with CDS possession and obstructing an officer as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.  He pleaded guilty on June 14, 12 days after his arrest by Elk City police.

In 2014, Shewmaker was arrested with another man in the side yard of a home in the 600 block of 8th Street in Elk City. There, Elk City police assisted deputies with Roger Mills and Beckham Counties in executing a search warrant at the residence on July 11 and found two men working on a flatbed trailer.

Shewmaker was found to have methamphetamine inside a package of cigarettes in his back right, pants pocket. He pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of a controlled, dangerous substance in Beckham County District Court and – at that time – received a three year deferred sentence.

The other man was arrested after officers allegedly found meth on him, as well.

According to its website, the Charles E. “Bill” Johnson Correctional Center (BJCC) is a dedicated substance abuse/cognitive behavior program facility operated by the Oklahoma DOC.
