The City of Cordell is once again looking for someone to manage and operate the beautiful Washita Theater in downtown Cordell.

Jerry Applewhite, of Carnegie has been the manager, but decided not to renew his contract this year and the last movies where shown around June 1, a month ago.

City Manager JC Moser says he’s putting the word out that the city-owned theater is looking for management help.

The city council approved a contract with Applewhite in March of 2014 who has been managing the theater since then. Applewhite has also managed the Carnegie Theater and previous to managing the Washita Theater, worked with Cordell city leaders with upgrading the theater with new digital equipment.

Moser says there was no problem with the theater. He says Applewhite just didn’t want to renew the contract.

The next council meeting is Tuesday night when the council is expected to appoint Jason Hulin of Clinton to the District 10 seat on the Oklahoma Municipal League to additionally represent Cordell.

Also on the agenda is the opportunity to rescind water restrictions. Moser says they’re not needed at the present time.

He says the city is busy implementing the new budget that took effect today, July 1 and continues to work on a major economic development piece, the Crider Road project including the upgrading of the water line for the new Tractor Supply store.

City Council meets in regular session at 6 pm on Tuesday in the Community Center located behind the Cordell City hall.
