A semi driver from Minnesota is recuperating in a Weatherford hospital after being pinned in his overturned vehicle for about an hour.

63-year-old Daniel L. Compton of West St. Paul was crossing through Western Oklahoma Tuesday night when a severe thunderstorm also crossed through the area with, what some witnesses have called, hurricane–like winds.

Compton was admitted to Weatherford Regional Hospital in fair condition with arm, leg, internal and external injuries.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Compton was traveling west about 7:17 pm, in a 2013 Freightliner in the inside lane of Interstate 40 when he experience a large wind gust that blew his big rig over and on top of a cable barrier.

He was freed about an hour later by the Hydro Fire Department using the Jaws of Life.

The accident happened about a mile west of Hydro in Caddo County.
