Memories were made over the weekend at the annual Western Equipment, KECO 96.5, Kool 94.3 Fishing Derby in Elk City.

For almost everyone, fishing is not only fun, but provides stories, from the big one that got away to casting your treble-hook lure into your mother’s head of hair.

The biggest fish award was presented to Tucker Murry on Saturday who caught a fish weighing in at 5.18 pounds.

Two of the five specially marked fish were hooked and pulled out and $100 went to both Asia Belote and Kadena Dorman.

But, the best fish was caught by 10-year-old Isaac Reed Garroway of Lone Wolf because it was his first catch ever.

The event kicked off at 8:30 Saturday morning at Ackley Park with a fishing lesson, taught by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and concluded at 4 pm when the winners were announced.

Other prize winners included Aunika Garcia and Asia Belote who won a prize in addition to the cash fish award.

But everyone has a fishing story, as does Nick Lenius from Elk City.

A number of sponsors additionally made the fishing derby possible including ACE Hardware, Barber Dyson Ford Lincoln, Hutch’s Convenience Stores and Travel Centers, Teddy’s Glass and Totally Outdoors.
