A couple thousand people are expected this year at the Mangum Mountie, “Wild West Days” Open Rodeo.

According to the Mangum Mountie Secretary, Peggy Payne, the 84th Annual Mangum Mountie will be better than ever with lots of fun events and activities, not to mention great food.

Payne says the event started today and runs through tomorrow night with performances nightly at 8 pm with $54-hundred dollars added to the competition prize money.

Payne says putting on the rodeo is an effort to keep fun, western activities close to home.

Additionally, Payne says there’s a Farmer’s Market, Dollar Day at the City Pool and the rodeo parade is at 11 am on Saturday. She says it’s going to be a lot of fun.

She says she thinks the rodeo stands hold about 15-hundred people.

Saturday morning, the Old Greer County Western Heritage Association will again provide an authentic Chuckwagon Breakfast from 8 to 10 am on the square at just $7 per person and includes biscuits, gravy, eggs, sausage, bacon and coffee.
