Its official, water from the new Dixon water well is now flowing in Clinton.
In quiet, unceremonious fashion, the tap was turned on almost two weeks ago and water from the new well began making its way through town.
According to City Manager Mark Skiles, the water is being treated with chloramines at the well head and then fed into the city’s 24-inch line from Clinton Lake.
Skiles says there was no big, public announcement that the water had begun flowing.
The output is expected to produce as much as 350 gallons a minute during hot, peak summer demands, but now in cooler temperatures, only about 100 gallons per minute.
The well water began flowing on Monday, September 21, but the city is still being served by its usual sources, Clinton Lake and Foss Reservoir.
Skiles says the next step is the drilling of two wells at the Riverside Golf Course and council members will accept one of two bids for that work at the upcoming council meeting.
Test wells on the golf course were made back in 2013.  When drilled, they’re expected to go to a depth of approximately 160 feet deep.
The Dixon well is 65 feet deep.
